Urban districts of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the capital of the Russian state of Sakhalin Wide shot Pan left/ Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk used to be called Toyohara City of Karafuto under the Japanese reign of the island. After the military invasion by the former Soviet Union in 1945, the island came under the rule of that regime.
