Flooded tents and despair in Gaza: Displaced civilians fight for survival (2)

GAZA, PALESTINE - DEC. 30, 2024: Palestinians endure immense hardship, struggling to survive Israeli attacks and the biting cold, as heavy rain turns their makeshift tents into flooded, unlivable shelters. Most families living in the tents in the besieged Gaza Strip are now overwhelmed with flood waters. The severe cold has also resulted in casualties among babies and children. "One night, the baby started bleeding, and we rushed him to the hospital. They said the baby had a disease, possibly caused by the cold. The baby didn’t survive. We had to bury him in the wilderness," said Usama Azzam, who lost his baby due to harsh cold. Coupled with the ongoing Israeli war and humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, the flood waters have further exacerbated the dire conditions for Gazans. Israel has killed more than 45,500 people in Gaza since an attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, and reduced the enclave to rubble. In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. (Footage by Hani Alshaer/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
