NARA, JAPAN - JAN. 28: Officials at Yakushiji Temple here showed rotten parts of central pillar at East Tower of the temple designated as both national treasure and world heritage. The beautiful five-story tower is under the first overhauling construction in more than 100 years, and lowest part of the stabilizing pillar was made open to the public. The central pillar is a traditional technique to stabilize the high-risingwood construction just as the multi-story towers in Japanese Buddhist temples.
