Joe Perry Recalls When Aerosmith Performed at the Super Bowl

Joe Perry: No they didn't really say. We heard there was some innuendo about "Don't be too biased towards Boston because you're a Boston band." And you know, obviously the patriots are playing. We heard a rumour that the other team complained that our stage was set up too close to their area. But I don't know about that. I mean they didn't specifically say that Steven shouldn't show his breast or anything like that, there was none of that. But like I've said before I don't think there should be any censorship. You know, the government shouldn't have anything to do with it but the performers have a certain obligation to know where they're at. I mean when we played that show we weren't playing an Aerosmith show, we were playing for the football crowd and it's the NFL's show. I mean if it was our show it would be another story, the same with Janet. If Janet wants to do what she wants to do at her show I think that's all fine and well. But to go out there and have an accident like that in front of that kind of crowd I think that's paying a little disrespect to the audience.
