Japan Launches Next Weather Satellite Himawari-8

KAGOSHIMA, JAPAN - OCT. 7: Japan on Tuesday launched a next-generation weather satellite from the Tanegashima Space Center in southwestern Japan in a bid to improve the accuracy of weather forecasts related to natural disasters. An H-2A rocket carrying the Himawari-8 weather satellite lifted off at 2:16 p.m. The satellite is expected to be placed in a geostationary orbit about 35,800 kilometers above the equator, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
