Google tax avoidance scheme criticised by Labour leader Ed Miliband; ENGLAND: London: INTEric Schmidt (Executive Chairman, Google) interview on stage at 'big tent' event SOT- (on whether he thinks he was wrong to describe tax arrangement as capitalism) No (laughter from audience)- Google feels strongly ..don't think companies should decide what tax policies should be I think Governments should- Google absolutely follow the tax laws of the countries they operate in - (on it being a moral decision by Google) taxes should not be up to Google- virtually all of the American companies have structure like this / this is how the international tax regime works- Governments have a lot more power than we do / if the law changes we will have to follow it- international tax regime needs to be rethought - trust me I did not design such an irrational structure, it would not have been designed this way by a computer scientist I can assure you (laughter from audience)
