Earl Of Wemyss

circa 1870: British politician Francis Wemyss-Charteris-Douglas, 10th Earl of Wemyss and March (1818 - 1914). The 10th Earl, born in Edinburgh, stood as a Conservative candidate and held seats in two constituences before taking his father's place in the House of Lords (1883). He was instrumental in forming the General Medical Council and reforming the laws governing a masters behaviour with a servant so that cases could be tried as a civil rather than criminal.
