An outbreak of deadly swine flu in Mexico and the United States has raised the specter of a new virus against which much of humanity would have little or no immunity. About 950 cases and 60 suspect deaths have been reported in Mexico, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said that the infection of humans with an influenza 'A' virus of animal origins is a concern "because of the risk, albeit small, that this could represent the appearance of viruses with pandemic potential."
