Great Train Robbery
An ex-LMS Stanier 4-6-0 steams along the West Coast Mainline, as two policemen guard the site of the infamous Great Train Robbery, at Sears Crossing, Ledburn, Buckinghamshire. This is where the Glasgow Central-London Euston mail train was stopped by a 15-strong armed gang on August 8, 1963, including Ronnie Biggs and Buster Edwards. They stole £2. 6m (£40m today) in what was Britain's biggest robbery, the bulk of which was never recovered. The theft entered national folklore. 8th August 1963.
