Sankt Peter-Ording, on the North Sea coast, on the western tip of the Eiderstedt peninsula, is characterised by a vast beach, in places more than a kilometre wide. In an area known for its sulphur baths, the huge beach, the dunes and salt marshes are of particular ecological importance. The tides in this area are particularly dramatic, rising and falling up to three metres.
