White Kishu Dog Ordained With PR Function at World Heritage Shrine in Wakayama Prefecture

Video footage taken on Dec. 16 at Niutsuhimejinja shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage site, located in Katsuragi, Wakayama Prefecture, shows a Kishu breed dog being offered to the shrine to serve as its “sacred dog” during the upcoming Year of the Dog in the traditional Chinese zodiac. Suzuhimego, an 11-month-old white female raised by a 42-year-old resident in nearby Hashimoto, also in the prefecture, will appear at the shrine on the 16th of every month for traditional rites but otherwise will stay with its owner.
