We’ll start with business insider there, the McDonald’s internal employee resource citement-- resource, the news of it temporarily shutting down is making headlines. The site became a little bit notorious for what some called insensitive and irrelevant advice to employees, and that’s been making the rounds online. First, it was the budget planning tool that did not account for food and relied on a second source of income for employees. Then, there were headlines about-- there was-- there’s advice on the site how much to tip your pool cleaner, housekeeper and au pair. NATALIE MORALES: Oh, my. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: Okay. But here was the final straw. The site advised employees not to eat McDonald’s staple foods but to opt for salad and a water. Well-- WILLIE GEIST: Wow. NATALIE MORALES: Oh, my. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: --a McDonald’s statement on the site read, “Between links to irrelevant or outdated information along with outside groups taking elements out of context, this created unwarranted scrutiny and inappropriate commentary. None of this helps our McDonald’s team members” So-- WILLIE GEIST: Wow. NATALIE MORALES: No. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: --for the moment-- NATALIE MORALES: It’s not good. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: --it is gone. I guess it’s the-- the-- good intentions, perhaps. NATALIE MORALES: Don’t eat McDonald’s food. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: Yes. DYLAN DREYER: I always said the site is McResource. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: Yeah. NATALIE MORALES: Yeah. WILLIE GEIST: Yes. (Cross talking) SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: But that was a McPR disaster. NATALIE MORALES: Yes, it was. MARIO ARMSTRONG: Mc-- McSite down. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: Yes. WILLIE GEIST: And McTip like you’re pool cleaner. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: Yeah. NATALIE MORALES: And the au pair. WILLIE GEIST: But-- meanwhile, trending on the Washington Post, the inside secrets of restaurant service, stuff you probably didn’t know about. Turns out there’s actually a sign language that many waiters-- MARIO ARMSTRONG: Oh, yeah. WILLIE GEIST: --use to communicate with each other without uttering a sound. It benefits the workflow in a noisy restaurant, in many cases, creates a better dining experience for the patrons. So I’ve got some signals. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: Okay. WILLIE GEIST: And I want you all to guess. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: Okay. NATALIE MORALES: Okay. Go ahead. WILLIE GEIST: Okay. What does this look like to you? A signal, pointing to his ring finger? WILLIE GEIST: And then there’s this one that we see a lot. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: Exactly, exactly. NATALIE MORALES: Yeah. MARIO ARMSTRONG: Yeah. WILLIE GEIST: Get these people out of here. MARIO ARMSTRONG: Out of here. WILLIE GEIST: It’s crazy. NATALIE MORALES: Especially when it’s us in the restaurant. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: Yeah, exactly. NATALIE MORALES: Out of here fast. Well, trending on Google, would you believe that police handed out speeding tickets on Christmas? In fact, officers in Melbourne, Florida took pride in it and this is why because-- take a look at the ticket they were issuing. Traffic violators were rewarded with scratch off tickets. And instead of paying the fine, they have a chance to win the big one. Willie, hand them over. Come on. He’s been holding them. WILLIE GEIST: Speeding. NATALIE MORALES: This is what they were giving out. WILLIE GEIST: There you go. NATALIE MORALES: The officer said that traffic was particularly slow so it’s-- they went out and they purchased tickets with their own money to deliver holiday cheer. And as a result, they got plenty of surprise looks from speechless customers. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: That’s so nice. DYLAN DREYER: So if you win, do you have to share? The rule is our family is-- NATALIE MORALES: Let’s see if we win. DYLAN DREYER: --if you win over a hundred dollars, you have to share your winnings with the rest of the family. WILLIE GEIST: Never. Well, doctors recently found an inoperable brain tumor and she fights for her life. She shared her dream with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Her dream was to dance with Beyonce.
