China's Communist Party has experienced tumultuous times over the past 60 years, but has managed to maintain power throughout a massive famine, the Cultural revolution, the Tiananmen pro-democracy protests and recent ethnic tensions without ever considering the surrender of one-party rule. Many attribute this success to its impressive economic success of the last 30 years.
