The body of French pilot Pierre Levegh lies dead after his Mercedes Benz 300 SLR hit the stands and exploded, on June 11, 1955 during the 23th edition of the 24 hours of Le Mans race, killing 82 persons, in which French pilot Pierre Levegh, and injuring 77 others.
