A photo taken on March 29, 2012 shows an HIV rapid test kit at the National AIDS & STI Control Program, NASCOP, in Nairobi that was among those recalled by the Kenyan government from its clinics earlier in the year. Kenya recalled some one million HIV testing kits following fears about their accuracy after the World Health Organization raised a global alert about the kit after finding that half the test results acquired from its usage could be wrong. Around 1.5 million people are living with HIV in Kenya, but only an estimated 400,000 are receiving antiretroviral (ARV) treatment, a situation classified as severe, generalized HIV epidemic, but in recent years, the country has experienced a notable decline in HIV prevalence, attributed in part to significant behavioral change and increased access to ART. National adult HIV prevalence is estimated to have fallen from 10 percent in the late 1990s to about 6.1 percent in 2005.
