Bangladesh's former military dictator Hussain Muhammad Ershad said November 13, 2008, that he would be the country's next president if Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina wins the December 18 election. The retired general told AFP he had struck a deal with Sheikh Hasina before the last elections were cancelled in January 2007 that he would become president if the coalition led by her Awami League party came to power.
