They can be globular, a flattened globe or closer to a cylindrical shape and their colour can range from yellow to white often with either green or purple shading towards the stem end.Turnips are particularly good buying during late autumn and winter, so now is a good time to try them.As is generally the case with vegetables, the smaller and younger the turnips the sweeter and more tender they are likely to be (those pictured are babies, only about five centimetres in diameter).
