View of a beach and harbour through a medieval archway, Cefalù, Sicily - Stockfoto

A wide medieval archway frames a luminous view down towards a crowded beach lined with blue sun umbrellas and a jetty extending into the brilliant Mediterranean sea, with a small headland and distant mountains visible beyond. The rough tawny stonework of the arch creates a dramatic contrast with the vivid blues of the sky and sea beyond, a composition that emphasises the long overlap between historical fortifications and modern seaside life in Cefalù, Palermo province, Sicily.
