Srinagar-Leh Highway Partially Thrown Open To Traffic

SRINAGAR, INDIA - APRIL 30: Vehicles cross through a snow bound Zojila pass, 108 kilometers (67 miles) east of Srinagar, on April 30, 2016 in Srinagar, India. The Srinagar-Leh road link was thrown open for vehicular traffic after around five months. India's Border Roads Organisation (BRO) which maintains the road opened it after clearing the snow from Zojila Pass, 3630 meters above sea level. The 434-km Srinagar-Leh National Highway, the only road linking Kashmir with frontier region of Ladakh, has been partially thrown open to vehicular traffic after remaining closed for over six months owing to heavy snowfall during winter. The Pass attracts the heaviest snowfall during the winter and as such it remains closed to traffic for five to six months in a year. (Photo by Waseem Andrabi/Hindustan Times via Getty Images)
